------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(We creatively call this part 'part a') My intellectual history is vast and impressive. I'm only kidding - well, half kidding anyway - but I am, however, going to take this wonderful opportunity to share a bit about myself, and about where I'm coming from when you hear me say things or while reading what I write.
As a youngster, I always loved to take things apart to figure out how they work. I never really got around the part where most people would typically put those things back together, but I enjoyed the whole idea nonetheless. This may have been the beginning of my life as an incurably hopeless nerd.
Unlike most other nerds you may have met, I'm not actually very smart - I just like to pretend that I am. As I grew up, I continued this amazing act, seeking out any opportunity to learn about gadgets, gizmos, whatsits, and shiny things. When I got to BYU, I decided to try my hand at a few of the more technical courses offered on campus. As it turns out, I ended up doing pretty well in these classes despite my glaring lack of intelligence. In the first semester after my mission, I jumped back and forth between a few different majors, including Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Engineering, but ended up settling - at least for now - into the Information Technology (IT) major.
(Now on to what you might have guessed is 'part b')
I've tried in the past to set goals to the effect of being more effective with my time - those all failed pretty miserably. So, because of this, I've decided to set a new goal: to be more effective with my time. I know what you might be thinking. You're saying, "but Dave, that's the same goal!" If this is indeed what you're saying, then you are, in fact, correct.
This time around, however, I am going to accomplish my goal. Why? Well, because I want to. In all seriousness though, I have a good plan that should lead to better accomplishing this goal. This plan includes what might be the biggest obstacle for me; going to bed early. So far, after a week, I've found that this isn't really all that hard to do, since I'm usually exhausted by around 11:00PM anyway. I must be getting old. I think it'll be easier to go to bed earlier this semester because I've moved out on my own, and am no longer living with my close friends. Since they live down the street, and not in my apartment, It's easier to break away and just go to bed. That's pretty much the plan so far. I'll be sure to keep you all posted on how that's going, since I know you're all on the very edge of your seats.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh yes, let me assure you, I AM on the very edge of my seat (although my current position is mostly due to the fact that I am wearing a backpack that is quite full.) Good job on setting a goal to go to manage your time better and in doing so, going bed earlier. Usually I don't find myself having the problem of managing my time poorly, but in the future if I do find myself in this particular predicament I will test your strategy of going to bed at a somewhat early hour of the day, and see if doing so helps me become a better manager of my time. Thanks for giving me the idea.
ReplyDeleteWow, I actually wanted to say that I was on my seat. But I'm on my couch so that would not be truthful. I totally know what you mean about jumping about from one thing to another. I am only a freshmen and I have already wanted to change my major like a thousand times. There is so much to do here at BYU it is incredible. I would love to hear more about your mission. Where did you go? What were some of your favorite experiences? etc.. I am heading out onto my mission at the end of this school year and can't wait. Good luck managing your time! I'm doing the same thing. I went to bed about about ten fifteen last night and wok up at eight! It was a very beautiful thing! Well I'm sure I'll talk to you later!
ReplyDeleteDave, I thought I would be able to go to sleep early as well. I'm not to good at it and i need to be because my classes start at eight. My roommates taunt and tease whenever i retire to my bed before midnight, they laugh and laugh. All i hear when i sleep is their laughing. Its a tough world we live in
ReplyDeleteI too have a hard time getting to bed early and as of now resorted to not taking any early classes which has been working out well so far. I hope things improve as you commit to retiring to bed earlier. I dont know, I just got back from my mission a month ago and may still be in a rebelious stage of not going to bed early, but we shall see, I may have to set this goal some day soon as well.
ReplyDeleteVery nice dave. Very nice. :D
ReplyDeleteIT is definitely the way to go.
